Over 75 films programmed for the 10th EthnoFilmfest
The 10th EthnoFilmfest, scheduled from the 8th through 11th of November 2007 with the motto âUnder the Influence of Realityâ, showcases young films from various regions and genres. The films seek to offer our audience an enthralling trip through both foreign cultures, as well as their own.
The first EthnoFilmfest opened to its audience in 1996 at the Ethnological Museum in Berlin and continued over the years to be a fixed dimension in the cultural landscape of the city.
During one long weekend fiction films, short films and animation films as well as experimental films are shown, rather than only âclassicalâ documentary films, in order to communicate a refreshing way towards cultural understanding. Since its foundation, film enthusiastic ethnology students from universities in Berlin have played a decisive role in the organisation and execution of the festival, which therefore serves also as a platform for young ethnological film. In addition to the lively presentation of the international film culture, the EthnoFilmfest creates an atmosphere for intercultural encounters and exchange: it offers the visitors many opportunities not only for interaction among one another, but also with artists, filmmakers and experts.
Extensive Program Palette â Highlights
The multifaceted program of the 10th EthnoFilmfest Berlin includes over 75 documentary, fiction films, experimental films and animation films from the entire world. The festival also offers our audience a wide spectrum of themes.
This year the EthnoFilmfest Berlin focuses on Rumania. On the occasion of the closing of the exhibition âWelt der Schatten - Kunst der SĂŒdsee. Totenkult und Ahnenbilder aus Neuirlandâ, with a special focus on the South Pacific. Throughout the entire festival, the audience has the opportunity to discuss the works with the filmmakers themselves and to award the audience prize.
